The West Bengal government will organize live screening of the FIFA World Cup final on a giant screen at Nandan here, giving football fans a chance to watch the Argentina-Spain clash, an official said on Saturday.

The official said that similar arrangements of live screening on big screens at important places in the districts will also be made for football lovers.

He said that the Youth Services and Sports Department is coordinating the arrangements in consultation with other departments.

According to an official notification issued by Rajesh Pandey, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Youth Services and Sports, all district administrations have been asked to set up screening facilities, and Rs 1 lakh has been allocated to each district for the purpose.

“A detailed plan is being worked out to ensure that the screening is conducted smoothly and necessary arrangements are in place at all locations,” the official said.

Technical preparations including screen arrangements and other logistics are being reviewed, he said, adding that security arrangements for the late-night event are also being coordinated with the police.

He elaborated that the main venue in Kolkata will be the Nandan-Ravindra Sadan-Academy complex, where arrangements are being made to provide a stadium-like atmosphere for the fans.

The government plans to decorate the venue with flags and other football-themed elements. The bureaucrat said former players and public figures are also likely to be invited to the screening.
