Export momentum continues, R

Despite global headwinds, India’s exports are maintaining good momentum and are expected to register positive growth in 2025-26, a senior commerce ministry official said on Friday.

Export and import data for the month of March and the entire 2025-26 financial year will be released by the Commerce Ministry on April 15.

“At the end of March 31, despite the war, we will end the year with positive growth. US tariffs, a lot of disturbances throughout the year, Ukraine war continues, Iran war started, despite all this, goods, exports have maintained their pace,” the official said.

In February, the country’s merchandise exports declined marginally by 0.81 percent year-on-year to $36.61 billion and the trade deficit reduced to $27.1 billion as compared to the previous month.

Cumulatively, exports grew by 1.84 per cent to $402.93 billion during April-February 2025-26. Imports during this period increased by 8.53 per cent to $713.53 billion, narrowing the trade deficit to $310.60 billion, compared to $261.80 billion in the same month last year.

Exports of goods and services during 2024-25 stood at $825 billion ($437 billion goods and $388 billion services).
