The United States and Iran indicated on Friday that a deal to end their conflict was close, with a senior US administration official saying a text existed that both sides found acceptable.

A spokesman for the country’s Foreign Ministry said Iran’s decision-making bodies were meeting to discuss the memorandum.

Pakistan, which has been trying to reach a deal for weeks, said the final text of a peace deal between the United States and Iran has been finalized.

“Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a post on Twitter.

The leaked terms of the proposed memorandum of understanding outlined by Western, Pakistani and Iranian sources on Friday appeared to favor Iran, drawing criticism from US President Donald Trump, who dismissed the reports as false.

Although there were slight differences in the various accounts, all appeared to have granted Tehran much of what it had demanded so far, with Trump appearing to be slightly safer than reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran closed following the attack by the US and Israel in February.

However, a senior US administration official said the agreement was specific about reopening the strait and removing enriched nuclear material. The official said Iran would receive significant sanctions relief based on its compliance with the terms of any agreement.
