PM Modi will inaugurate Semikund

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Kaynes Semicon’s OSAT facility in Sanand on March 31.

The project was approved by the Union Cabinet on September 23, 2024 under the Semiconductor Mission of India. With an investment of ₹3,300 crore, this project will further strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem in Sanand.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the growth of the semiconductor sector in India will make this decade the biggest turning point for the technological future of the country.

Following the launch of the Micron plant, the commissioning of Kaynes Semicon’s OSAT facility will further boost local economic development. OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) involves testing and packaging the chips before they are delivered to the market. According to estimates, the plant to be inaugurated on March 31 will produce 60 lakh chips per day.

Earlier in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the Micron Semiconductor Plant. On this occasion, he highlighted the pace of the project and said, “The MoU for this facility was signed in June 2023, the foundation stone was laid in September and commercial production had already started by February 2026. Even in developed countries, such approvals and processes take years, but India has accomplished this impossible task in just 900 days. When intentions are clear, and there is dedication towards rapid national development, policies become decisive. are, and decisions naturally gain momentum.”

Sanand has seen remarkable changes in its industrial development in a very short period of time. A plant is also being set up by CG Semi along with Micron Technology and Kynes Semicon. Sanand, once known as an automobile hub, is now emerging as India’s first chip packaging cluster and a major hub in the global semiconductor value chain. Like Taiwan’s Hsinchu city and South Korea’s Gyeonggi, Sanand is developing as a semiconductor hub in India.

The Prime Minister said, “Our goal is not limited to setting up a factory, but to build an entire ecosystem. India is now focusing on the entire semiconductor value chain, including all levels from design engineers to machine makers and logistics. The announcement of ‘India Semiconductor Mission 2.0’ is a big step in this direction. As production increases, demand for materials and components within India will also increase, creating the biggest opportunity for domestic industries.”

India is becoming an important part of the global semiconductor value chain. He said that the efforts initiated during the Covid period are now yielding results, 10 major projects have been approved so far under the SEMICON India programme, of which four are in Gujarat.
