The Kalaburagi district committee of the Akhila Bharata Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane has demanded that the State government declare Kalaburagi as a flood-affected district and announce a special package for farmers who have suffered loss due to excessive rainfall.
Sanghatane district president Padmini Kiranagi and secretary Shanta Saradagi addressing presspersons here on Sunday urged the State government to conduct survey to assess the damage to kharif crops, including red gram, green gram, black gram, soya bean and cotton, across the district and release relief for crop loss.
Ms. Kiranagi also urged the State government to distribute free seeds, fertilizers and pesticides to farmers for the rabi season. She said that the State government should also provide ₹25 lakh compensation to families of debt-ridden farmers who committed suicide in the district.
Ms. Saradagi added that the sanghatane will join the indefinite protest launched by members of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha in Kalaburagi in this connection.
