MBBS intake goes up to 200 seats at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences

The National Medical Council (NMC) has increased the intake of students in the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) to 200 from 150 starting this academic year.
“New Delhi-based NMC has issued an order increasing admissions for MBBS seats for 2025-26 to 200. We express our gratitude to the medical education regulator and congratulate our teachers and staff for this achievement,” Director BIMS Ashok Kumar Shetty said in a release.
The State government established BIMS in 2005 along with other autonomous government medical colleges. It functions on the premises of the District Government Hospital, which the British started as Civil Hospital in 1859. It is one of the oldest hospitals, government or private, in North Karnataka.
Recently, BIMS entered into an MoU with KLE Society to allow experts from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College to provide consultancy at the BIMS super-speciality wing.
This is expected to lead to additional allocation of post-graduate seats in BIMS.
“The increase in seats is a matter for pride not only for BIMS but also for Belagavi district. It is the second biggest district in the State. BIMS serves the poor by providing free access to tertiary health care and create a large pool of talented young doctors,” the director said.
“Recently, we were ranked second among government medical colleges in the State by a private publication,” Dr. Shetty said.
