Five members of a family died after coming in contact with a live wire around a farmland in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.

The tragic incident occurred late Tuesday (August 19, 2025) night in Varkhedi village, Erandol taluka, but came to light on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) morning. The deceased have been identified as Vikas Ramlal Pawara (30), his wife Suman Vikas Pawara (25), their sons Pawan (4) and Kaval (3), and Vikas’s mother Lilabai Jamsingh Pawara (60). A two-year-old girl, Durga Vikas Pawara, miraculously escaped unhurt, officials from district administration said.

According to police, the family accidentally touched an electrified wire fence installed around the farmland, owned by Bandu Yuvraj Patil, to protect crops from wild animals. A villager passing by noticed the family lying motionless and a toddler crying nearby. He alerted the village head and the police, following which a team rushed to the spot and took the victims to the district hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
