Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has questioned the Congress’s plan to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to seek Centre’s support for the 42% BC quota for the local body polls and termed it as a ‘drama’ on Monday.

In a press statement, Mr. Rao has pointed out that it is the Congress which has promised the quota for the BC before the Assembly elections and when the Bill was introduced in the Legislative Assembly it was supported by the BJP conditionally.

“So, how does the Centre come into the picture? Why blame the Centre when issuing an ordinance is the Governor’s prerogative? Where is the need to mark the ordinance copy to the President? Does it happen? These are all gimmicks by the ruling party to avoid holding local body polls and even give quota to the BC especially with 10% of it being accorded to the Muslims,” he said.

The BJP president said the Congress only intends to make some ‘noise’ in Delhi but is confident that the people of the country and Telangana are well aware of the damage being done to the country and hence will not take these acts seriously.

Meanwhile, the party president will be conducting a two-day tour to Peddapalli and Mancherial districts on Tuesday and Wednesday to hold meetings with the party cadre and also meet professionals from several fields.

In a separate press conference, general secretary K. Venkateswarlu said BRS MLC K. Kavitha has no locus standi to take up any agitation for the sake of BC when the government led by her father and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao did nothing while they were in power for 10 years.

“It is shameful that she is speaking about BC quota when KCR had in fact reduced it to 22% from 34%. She never worked for the sake of BCs either as MP or MLC. She is now speaking out of frustration due to property fights in the family and her own party leaders had begun to criticise her,” he said.
