Telangana has the potential to attract investments worth ₹50,000 crore through tourism alone, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said on Saturday (September 27), while stressing that the sector must now receive the same attention as technology and pharmaceuticals. Speaking at the Telangana Tourism Conclave held in Hyderabad on the occasion of World Tourism Day, he announced that the State has already received investment proposals of ₹15,000 crore following the launch of its Tourism Policy earlier this year.

During the conclave, the government exchanged MoUs with leading national and international investors as part of the ₹15,000 crore investment proposals. Minister for Tourism Jupally Krishna Rao said 30 projects have been proposed, expected to generate over 50,000 jobs. Of these, 14 projects will be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode with an outlay of ₹7,081 crore, while 16 will be taken up by the private sector with ₹8,198 crore in funding.

Tourism Secretary Jayesh Ranjan unveiled a series of initiatives, including ‘Film in Telangana’ to encourage film tourism, a designated medical tourism zone, and the promotion of destination weddings at Anantagiri, Nagarjunasagar, and Somasila. A Medical Value Tourism portal was launched to streamline patient journeys from enquiry to treatment, alongside the Telangana Culinary Accelerator to highlight the State’s food culture. A special tourist police task force of 90 members has also been constituted to ensure safety at key tourist destinations.

Among the marquee projects are a luxury wellness retreat at Ananthagiri in collaboration with Joysom Pte (Singapore) and ZEN Resorts (Bali, Indonesia), a vineyard resort offering visitors a walkthrough from grape harvesting to bottling, and a ₹2,000-crore expansion of Ramoji Film City. International hospitality brands InterContinental, St. Regis, and Oberoi are also set to make their entry into Hyderabad.

Other key proposals include a Taj Safari experience at Vikarabad, a waterfront resort with Mahindra Holidays, and three international convention centres in partnership with Hyatt, Hilton, and Citadel. Theme parks are planned by the Ramoji Group, Experium Group, and MAST Group, while Ginger Hotels will expand its presence in Tier-2 cities and temple towns.

Monasteries at Buddhavanam at Nagarjunasagar will also be developed as iconic wedding and wellness destinations. The Experium Group has additionally committed ₹750 crore towards expanding its ventures in the State.
