Trump reiterated India-Pakistan mediation

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim of resolving the conflict between India and Pakistan, saying 11 jets were shot down during the four-day hostilities in May last year.

Speaking aboard Air Force One on Wednesday, Trump said he should have won the Nobel Peace Prize “more than anyone” for settling eight wars between India and Pakistan.

India has consistently denied any third party interference.

Trump claimed that a conflict between India and Pakistan was “going to be nuclear.” Without giving details, the US President said that “11 aircraft were shot down” during the conflict.

Trump did not specify whether the jets were lost by either country or whether he was referring to combined losses by both sides.

India has said that at least a dozen Pakistani military aircraft, including F-16 jets, were destroyed or damaged by Indian strikes during Operation Sindoor.

Trump said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif gave him credit for saving the lives of 30 to 50 million people by stopping the India-Pakistan conflict.

“Guess what, it could have been much higher,” Trump said.

India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 last year, targeting terrorist infrastructure in areas controlled by Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

These attacks led to four days of intense clashes that ended with an agreement to cease military action on 10 May.

Since then, Trump has repeated his claim that the fighting ended after his intervention. New Delhi has been saying that both sides stopped their military actions after direct talks between their armies without US mediation.
