Protests against NEET in Tamil Nadu intensified on Saturday, with the continuous sit-in at the CPI state headquarters (Balan Ilam) in T Nagar entering its sixth day.

The students have demanded cancellation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and action against alleged police excesses against protesting youth in Delhi.

Students Federation of India organized campus demonstrations at Loyola College, Presidency College and other educational institutions.

Medical professionals and students across Tamil Nadu are also set to launch a coordinated statewide protest on July 28.

The protest has been called by the Doctors Association for Social Equality and Tamil Nadu Medical Students Association to show solidarity with the ongoing anti-NEET protests in New Delhi.

As part of the movement, demonstrations will be held outside all government medical colleges across Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, activist Sonam Wangchuk ended her hunger strike after midnight on Thursday after the Center gave a written assurance that it was inclined not to file cases against peaceful protesters.

It said examination reforms and paper leaks will be discussed in detail in Parliament and compensation for the families of students who died by suicide following the alleged NEET paper leak is being actively considered.

Wangchuk Cockroach had been on an indefinite fast since June 28 after joining the Janata Party-led agitation that is demanding accountability for alleged irregularities in competitive exams, reforms in the education system and resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
